Minecraft: Console Edition

From July 2015 to December 2015 I worked as a Junior Artist at 4J Studios on the console edition of Minecraft. My role varied from working on pixel art for the terrain, items, mobs and skins to helping create promotional art and scripting Javascript Photoshop plugins to aid workflows.

The largest project I worked on was the Mario Mashup Pack for Wii U Minecraft. I was responsible for the majority of the items designs, from concept through to final sprite. As a massive Mario fan, I took great pleasure in diving into the universe to find suitable crossovers; including using Cheep Cheeps as the fish; the F.L.U.D.D for the bucket; part of the Wing Cap for the feather; and Yoshi Eggs for the spawn eggs.

I also created the different armours, drawing from titles such as Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Bros. 3. Clicking on the picture shows a turnaround of the armour.

One of my favourite tasks was to recreate some of the Super Mario 64 paintings in pixel form, alongside iconic Mario symbols such as Tick Tock Clock and a ‘Shine’ for the paintings.

On the effects side, I worked on the Nether Gate Portal and Lava.

Alongside the Mario Mashup pack, I worked on the the 1.8.8 update texturing the new blocks such as podzol and prismarine, new mobs like the rabbit and guardian and created new skins, all across a range of packs including Festive, Halloween and Greek.
